A CMS-like piece of software should probably have a means to communicate important information to its users. We could build some alert system into mEditor's UI and support this.

Some thoughts:

The monthly server patches would be a perfect place to use this. Notify the users a week before and then the day before of downtime.
Potentially add notifications to a maintenance page? May need to look into this for cloud
An admin page where we can add new notifications. Notifications should be schedulable and can expire.
Would not be a model in mEditor, this would be a first-class feature
Have a bell icon in the header where you can see notifications you've dismissed
