1 year ago To playback from start, hit Alt-Space. In the current version of Manhattan, there's only one pattern, so Play Song (F5) should also get you the functionality you need. 8 already works for play whole row - just not on your machine apparently. See previous issue.
As for legacy Impulse Tracker interaction, Manhattan is a more 'forward looking' than reViSiT, so legacy features are not a priority where a better method is available. A key design principle of Manhattan is to keep the interface clean and minimal, to aid learning and efficient use - and that's not just to make things more accessible, but to aid motor learning better than IT2 did.
For the most part, you should be able to capture most functionality by defining the Keyboard Shortcuts yourself - the keyboard scheme can be saved and reloaded. In the future, time permitting, I may consider an Impulse Tracker mode, or embedding an IT2 keyboard preset, so you come up with one please email a copy. As a former IT2 user myself, I can tell you that it doesn't take long to transition from IT2/reViSIT to Manhattan's UI.
@esaruoho - I keep reaching for f6 to start playback of the pattern from row 00. well looks like i can just solve this by adding it as "Play Song" shortcut. would it be feasible to have a hand on the default shortcuts so that there are some very specific Mac / IT ones that would let one .. be safe .. in the knowledge that they’re safe and don’t need to be set by hand on every install on every machine. I can make a list - if you’re open to this and don’t think i’m being too overbearing for suggesting it. the list would definitely start with "8" for play-whole-row :)
