can not connect to database #138

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

At the initial settings screen, after entering settings and clicking on "Test"
it reports no connection with database. Verified inputed data by adding a
video source as "myth://username:password@i.p.address" and I can view the
"guide" so the username and password are correct. Confirmed port per txt file
on myth backend.

Installed per your Readme installation but stuck at step #3.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
XBMC - 10.0 Dharma (live cd installed to disk)
Mythbuntu 10.04 LTS (backend)

Thanks for any feedback. Regards.

Solved -- please disregard.

Assumed just needed to add password and username. After changing "localhost"
to point to Mythbuntu backend that solved connection issue to database. Then
got error about no local dir "var/lib/mythtv/recordings". Solved that by
apt-get nfs client and mkdir a local dir "mythbox". Then changed mythbox script
to point to this newly made dir. A comment: 1) may consider making local dir
editable by user in gui vs editing mythbox config file 2) may consider adding
requirement of nsf (or other option) in notification box when need for ffmpeg
is displayed 3) may consider changing default of "localhost" on setup gui to
something indicating the need to point to the myth data base i.e. your
"change_me" default for the password. Regards.

All good points and all addressed in the README and FAQ. Maybe adding the
README to Settings screen will help new users...
