Very slow changing channels, almost unusable. #144

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Typing in the channel you want
2. Hitting > or < to change the channel
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The channels should not have to take 10 seconds to change. If its possible,
could this be fixed to where it doesn't freeze up or take a long time to change
channels or make it to where you can have a guide at the bottom sort of like
what is done in mythtv frontend. I will include a screen shot of what I am
talking about. Basically, you can scroll through the channels, then hit enter
and it will change to that channel.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Mythbox 1.0.0

Please provide any additional information below.

Not sure what else to put, please let me know what you need if anything.

XBMC's built-in myth:// URL support is responsible for changing channels so it
is out of my hands. I'm curious as to what sort of time difference are you
seeing in changing channels in MythBox vs MythTV frontend?

Hmm ok, well it was worth a try anyway. Thanks for responding. When I
change channels on the myth frontend, its about 3 seconds to change, on the
mythbox plugin, its almost 10 to 15 seconds. This could be partly due to my
capture card, but I'm not entirely sure. Do you need any kind of hardware
specs or software specs on the computer I'm using as a frontend?

I found this a problem too and found adding mythtv in /etc/hosts made a big
difference.

Any confirmation from other users that the /etc/hosts fix is valid?

I can confirm that channel changes takes 10, 15 and sometimes even 30 secs (on
HD channels).
I've tested running XBMC+Mythbox in the same PC as MythTV Backend. MythTV
frontend takes 2-3 seconds to change baetween channels.
I swapped from Mythbox to TVHeadend until this solution become more usable, but
I'm at your disposal to do any tests or help in any way I can to improve this.

Open defect with XBMC under myth:// url support if this is stil an issue. XBMC
Eden Beta1 seems to be very stable wrt watching live tv and changing channels
using latest mythbox trunk.
