Community issue: needs active maintainers #278

The common problem with useful open source software has hit this project! The singular maintainer has understandably not enough time to maintain it single-handedly.

@nateshmbhat Please consider adding active contributors as maintainers so maintainers can get PRs merged.

Everyone else, please vote thumbs up/down on the issue, volunteer or nominate for maintainer.

Main evidence of this proposed issue is the set of PRs hanging open for fixing repeated safe_to_file calls on MacOSX:
