2 years ago A pretty good draft of the mimsifier is now commited, with options that should help with some of the undecided possibilities, and test that should make it easy to update as desired.
Questions:
1) Is this text for humans or machines? This tells me e.g. whether it matters if ";" is used both within a field value, and as a field delimiter
2) Can we use newlines? Would make sense at the end of each row.
3) Do we want years at sea and if so, in what format (I would suggest breaking out the subfields as years merchant: 1/5, years navy: 0)
The documentation is still needed for this part. It is flagged in the docs with TODO comments and can be filled in once the final format is agreed.
The draft Mimsy conversion was written over a year ago and is likely not quite right. Need to work with the appropriate people at RMG to produce a final format. This can wait for a while if need be, as manual corrections will be needed before any data can be uploaded to Mimsy.
This should be a pretty mechanical data format conversion and I do not anticipate significant problems, but there might be quite a lot of elapsed time as we go back and forth between two institutions.
