There is little use to nether balls not because about the lack of uses to catch nether mobs but because it burns up after catching. For example I wanted to catch ghasts or striders but unable to or have to be lucky with it since its always over lava or fire and if I ended up missing one shot from the nether ball, the ball flies towards the lava, be it caught something or nothing. I believe this addition helps and will change the popularity of nether balls (If majority knows what mob to bring back).
