I'm just another developer, but this is what i have gathered by NAV documentation and github conversations
The XML file itself is the electronic invoice, that data can be downloaded by the customer's invoicing system directly from the NAV servers, save it and file it to the books It is in every shape and form valid invoice, no need for any other form of document, no PDF nor any printed form. Purely just structured data
That is why the documentation "stipulates" that you need an agreement with the customer that you are exchanging invoice this way, so the requirements of data storage and archiving is met Because you need to store and keep the xml data - which contains the hash encoding type - and the hash itself digitally, for the same years as it would a paper invoice
