I found this bug on my Fedora 7 machine. I confirmed this on Ubuntu 8.04
machine too.

Yes. Unfortunately that is a problem of Autotools. From what I gathered from 
the Net,
there isn't a simple and robust workaround for this problem.

Check can be skipped or be done in a directory with no spaces. Alternative build
systems (MSVS, CMake, Scons, whatever) can be added to the source in the future.
Autotools is a great pain for developers anyway.

So I mark this as WontFix.
