There are couple of ways:

  1. Install antivirusl locallly. Scan time ~10 seconds, we will spend our host resources. Good privacy
  2. Upload it to other hosts. Scan time - depends on network latency and PDF size. Do not spend out resources. Bad privacy - we share PDF with 3rd party.

In case of any problems with antivirus what action should be triggered by default - preventing of further process or silently omit it? I am talking about case when antivirus program failed (for instance, out of memory or AV database corrupted).

Document with embedded virus (just signatue for tests, nothing dangerous) could be downloaded from here. Ensure that local antivirus software is temporary disabled. Zip secured with password, see on that page too.
