NBN Forum post: https://forums.nbn.org.uk/viewtopic.php?id=6970 A request to add English names as well scientific names to species list downloads. If the general public are to be directed to use some of the (potentially) simple tools for exploring records, English (common) names, where they exist, would I'm sure be very helpful to them. Might I add that the taxon group (insect-dragonfly, terrestrial mammal etc.) would also be useful as many users will not be able to filter or understand the taxonomic tree in quite the same way as experienced recorders or scientists can.

We have been asked for this in the context of the INNS portal, which is why I have increased the priority of the issue.

Could we clarify where this functionality is needed?

It is possible to download a species list in the following places:

  1. by clicking on 'Download' on e.g. https://lists.nbnatlas.org/speciesListItem/list/dr560 .
  2. from the species search results page by clicking on 'Download' on e.g. https://species.nbnatlas.org/search?fq=idxtype%3ATAXON&q=marsh .
  3. by clicking on 'More' on the Scientific name facet of a records search (e.g. https://records.nbnatlas.org/occurrences/search?q=species_group%3AAlgae#) and then clicking on the download icon button.
  4. By selecting 'Species checklist' as the download type on a records search e.g. https://records.nbnatlas.org/download?searchParams=%3Fq%3Dhare&targetUri=/occurrences/search&totalRecords=1848
  5. By selecting 'Export -> Checklist' from the menu on the spatial portal, e.g. https://spatial.nbnatlas.org/?q=cl14:[*%20TO%20*]#

  1. yes - this was the intended one
  2. yes
  3. yes
  4. yes - do we have any information in the last two columns (conservation and invasive). where would this information come from?
  5. ideally yes, but we can leave the spatial portal until the update.

We should include the recommended english common name everywhere a scientific name is exported/downloaded.
