It would be really useful if our daily push notification was only triggered when someone had transactions to categorize. Obviously, this would also require a background refresh. Example:

You have 3 new expenses Review and categorize your expenses now!

A slightly more advanced example:

You have 3 new expenses You spent $114.55 in the last 24 hours. Review and categorize your expenses now!

So I'm wondering about this. Here is the opposite proposal:

Try to make users come to the app every day. Advantages:

They get in a rhythm of thinking about their spending daily
This is a sort of slot machine, like instagram and facebook, which works addictive. Which transactions will I see today?
