Hi Asiyah. BioPortal does have an access control mechanism in place for viewing ontologies. When you submit a new ontology, you can mark it as private in the "Viewing Restrictions" section of the form, and select one or more BioPortal user accounts that are allowed to view the ontology.
Assuming you have a BioPortal account and you're logged in, you can access the new ontology form here: https://bioportal.bioontology.org/ontologies/new.
If you want to change the viewing restrictions for an existing ontology, you can navigate to your ontology summary page and click the "Edit ontology details" button in the top-right portion of the screen.
If you have any follow-up questions about this functionality, please post them on our user support list: https://mailman.stanford.edu/mailman/listinfo/bioontology-support.
Hi, We'd like to have a controlled access to BioPortal instance. Is it possible to add a user authentication module to enable controlled access?
Our use case is associated with Pistoia Alliance, who has a lot of ontology projects developed or under-development. We will need to have the member's only access to some of the un-public ontologies displayed using BioPortal.
Thanks, Asiyah
