Two issues

ffmpeg was getting linked in, which required other 3rd party shared libraries's on the user's system. Lacking the shared libraries, the load failed.
Relative path names involving "~" expansion to the user's home directory weren't working. Fixed by expanding to an absolute path name in matlab.
