No SHUTDOWN_MESSAGEs are generated by kernel_upgrade.sh script #9

No shutdown or wall messages are being displayed on the console or in the logs by the kernel_upgrade.sh script.

I suspect that somehow by not specifying a --message parameter the $SHUTDOWN_MESSAGE variable is getting set to an empty string. And/or something else is going on.
