Before I start coding this table, I created a mockup of how it might look:
Any thoughts about this?
Here's the updated table with new background colors. Let me know if any other changes are needed before we link it to the beta tester form.
Here's an idea for how we could ask the beta testers:
I like it! Two quick comments/questions about the new image:
1) Can we try to distinguish the future time period titles and projected average titles a bit more? Maybe black background with white text? 2) How do you feel about sorting the projected averages from lowest to highest? In other words, row 1 becomes min projected average and row 3 becomes max projected average. Maybe this is just how my brain likes to see things?! Could that be a question for the beta testers?
Your verbiage for this beta testing question sounds great to me!
Here's an updated version. I put the time periods in gray with a white background to match the time period colors in the timeseries plot.
The reason I listed the averages with max value at the top is that it matches the order in the timeseries tooltips, and in the majority of cases (other than any negative changes), the max, mean, and min will appear in on the plot from top to bottom in that order (i.e., the +2 stddev "whisker" is the highest, then the mean value, then the -2 stddev "whisker").
In my mind, keeping that consistency is most important, but if it's more obvious to list these as min, mean, then max, then we could do that. We could ask the beta testers about it if you want.
Looks good to me! And that totally makes sense about the order matching the above timeseries tooltips so that convinces me to leave it alone. :) Thanks.
Among the beta testers, 6 out of 8 said a table should be available below the time series plot, either alone or along with an option to export the data as an Excel spreadsheet.
In our small group discussions, we plan to further interrogate the "table people" and "Excel people" about the most useful features of each.
Action items based on small group discussions: Add a data table but set it to be initially collapsed. Add a link inside to export the data as a CSV file. (LOW PRIORITY)
Bump this up the priority list to supplement the time series. Ryan suggested putting the data from the current map display in bold.
Feedback from folks during the Carolinas Climate Resilience Conference poster session indicates a need for this feature.
Related to issue #29, we also talked at the Carolinas Climate Resilience Conference about putting the time series tabular output next to the vertical time series plot.
Add a table below the timeseries containing the values for each time period (MEDIUM PRIORITY)
