This relaxes the requirements of soilDB 2.7.3+ in parse_family() bringing soilDB safely back into suggests

now only depends on the metadata object
eventually the soilDB minimum suggested version may be increased to support use of more modern functions related to metadata, but for now the code is written backward compatibly with recent versions of soilDB (>1.8.8)
