clean up behavior of failure to restore due to no saved entries

When attempting to restore a crashed session that didn't yet have any entries:

But a new message is still logged 'Restored after crash: '

Make sure the reasons for this are well understood, and think about cleaning up the behavior:

• should there be a 'Restored after crash' entry?
• could the popup message be made more clear?
