See http://help.caltopo.com/kb/3rd-party-tools/downloadable-birdeye-format-maps

SAR purchased 2x 64GB microSD cards and 1x 32GB card to try this out. I have 3 of the loaner 62 GPSes at home and will try the flow on them. We need to make sure these GPSes get used by team leaders on the next search, so we can get some feedback about usefulness / usability. Combined with getting some experience on the procedure for unlock-and-load, we can then decide if we want to pursue doing this for more GPSes.

Matt does confirm that it's OK to just do one download of the JNX files and then copy them to potentially a whole bunch of SAR team-member-owned GPSes.

Loaded up a 32GB card with a bunch of jnx, in NCSSAR GPS 3. Working through usability questions on an email thread with Matt Jacobs, Craig Taylor, Rich Riechel, and Rich Shelton. Will load up two 64GB cards and bring the units back at the meeting tomorrow. Then we need to make sure they get used so we can get feedback.

3 GPSes (GPS 2, GPS 3, and GPS 7) are loaded up and are back in the trailer.

I only used the new 32GB card, to replace an 8GB card. The others already had a 16GB and another 8GB which can actually hold a lot of the relevant data, so will leave those as-is. I asked Craig for the list of what he puts on the 64GB cards, that seems like a LOT more than we would use. Still, SAR bought them so after getting the list I will try them out on two more SAR GPSes.

Note, in addition to the jnx files listed below, all GPSes also have gmapsupp.img (1.5GB) in the Garmin directory - this is the Garmin-drawn 'US-West' topo set.

At some point soon there will be a shared documentation page on the ncssarnc@gmail.com google drive, complete with screenshots and such. Til then:

Also loaded GPS 4 and GPS 5 with 64GB cards and more maps. Published a tech bulletin:
