NCX response: We appreciate the detailed comments raised about the absence of HWP accounting in the initial draft of our methodology. The carbon stored in trees is released into the atmosphere when a tree dies, some of it almost instantaneously and sometimes over years to decades. We believe it is important to account for all reasonable pools of emissions related to a harvest, and our revised methodology takes the storage of carbon in, and subsequent release of carbon from, harvest wood products into account.

2021 Deferred Harvest Methodology Section: Section 6 Baseline Scenario, Equation 1
Comment: Where carbon would have been lost in the baseline scenario due to land use conversion or disturbance, GHG emissions from soil carbon, belowground biomass, wood products and dead wood carbon pools generally occur over a period of time following the event. It shall not be assumed that all GHG emissions from these carbon pools in the project categories specified below occur instantaneously or within a short period of time, however the methodology assumes exactly this scenario which is not in conformance with the VCS requirements.
