have the HUD be an overlay that looks like the outside of a CRT display #65

Fitting with the theme of "we are looking at the game through an old-school monitor" we could have the HUD elements look like the outside of an old-school oscilloscope or radarscope. I'll look for an example image that @koffeinvampir, @meriland and @PriorBlue can use as a reference to what I mean.

This is the sort of thing that I mean:

Please let me know what you think.

Absolutely lovely! However, the surroundings must not take up too much space in the interface and the main game window should still take up at least 80% of the application window. I think even the whole game can be put inside this interface, that is, the game itself, the menu, credits, etc., which would be just awesome. A few basic gameplay functions could be placed outside the main window (like little extra windows in which the different towers are displayed and can be dragged and dropped onto the main window). What do you think?

Well, the biggest thing that has put this issue on back burner for me was the awesome buttons that (AFAIK) @PriorBlue made for selecting towers; they work much better on-screen, rather than as part of a radar console.
