When I change the slot index of a slot object that has multiple frames, and enable automatic keyframe insertion on the timeline and then change the slot, a new keyframe doesn't show up on the timeline / dope sheet. Only the standard keyframe types work Location, Rotation, LocRot, ect. If I hange frames using the old Spritesheet feature with the example provided in the repo it shows up on the timeline, but with merged slots it does not? Using Blender 2.79.
