Issue #186 change units dynamically #189

This patch changes the default interval to 1000, and adapts the units accordingly.

There were some conflicts in this merge request so I just manually pulled out the units changes, tested and committed in df0d608160b10016f1dd2d3659b4453a49a6a86d.
