+1. If you need it directly, you will probably beat me to it since it is kinda far back in my personal backlog atm. Wrote down som notes on Linux packaging, they fit in this issue's discussion thread...
A. Independent installer package Classically a deb or rpm file, but maybe even something more cross-distro like AppStream, Listaller, ZeroInstall, instead.
B. Getting published through each distros official software distribution channels Each distro usually maintains their own official channel. Ubuntu has Software Center, based on apt, itself brought in from Debian's channels. A dependency on an official xulrunner package could be made and thus xulrunner could be stripped out of the application package, minimizing it's filesize.

Debian packaging is more important to me at the moment, and IIRC, it's pretty easy to do. I may try to tackle this one at some point unless you beat me to it.
