Explore adding support for metrics #180

When we started this project early in 2022, opentelemetry-js support for metrics was in development. in the interim, it has been upgraded to stable.

We have a branch with early work for adding support for metrics, although it may be way out of date.

Now that opentelemetry-js support for metrics is stable, we should consider updating this project to integrate relevant functionalities.
