Addresses issue #555

Also includes:

add tests
fix existing tests which were succeding because wrongly implemented

Coverage remained the same at 93.148% when pulling 1350ee82ed5236f4fad2b7a607c888d6c66469ea on simoneb:issue-555-batch-authorization into f6f176d6c84426ec28c0923a39c60f7dff5eb6c3 on nearform:master.
