The "Set erase EEPROM fuse" option is ambiguous #32

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.It is unclear what the "Set erase EEPROM fuse" function does in the configure
screen. Does it make the program erase the eeprom when the 9x is flashed? Or
does it save the values in the eeprom?
2.The average user doesn't know what an eeprom fuse is.
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Unambiguous statement like "Checking this box will save the EEPROM from being
erased along with all of your model memories when new firmware is flashed to
the 9x. Do not check this box if you are changing from one type of firmware
to another."

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

Please provide any additional information below.
I consider this a defect since the user has no way of knowing which setting is
correct for his needs.

As is, if I understand correctly, the eeprom is erased when flashing the fw if
the box is checked (default behavior).
It would seem more logical to me if to invert this behavior: the box would be
unchecked by default, and checking it would protect the eeprom from being
erased.
The box could be simply named "Do not erase the models", or something like that.

I've changed the wording a bit.
I still think that the default behavior should be to erase the eeprom.

When you're updating from a Turnigy eeprom or from a non-compatible eeprom
there might be some issues.

I agree that the default behavior should be to erase the eeprom.
Actually I meant to invert the behavior of the checkbox :
- the box could be labeled "Do not erase the models"
- by default the box would be unchecked, and the eeprom would be erased
- only if the user checks the box, the eeprom is protected.

Why ? Well it feels right to have to check a box to activate an option, it just
feels strange to see a box checked by default. :p
