API: http://status.net/wiki/Twitter-compatible_API

to use them, simply change the API base.
To Identi.ca as a example:

change the API base to "http://identi.ca/api"

and you can sign in with your identi.ca username/passwd via basic auth

In the clone I did of the project I just pushed a little modification where the 
user can choose the URL shortener from the Preferences window. I know it is a 
trivial thing, but I think it is interesting for the user to be able to use the 
shortener he/she wants instead of a default one...

I really like this project, and if this small contribution helps, I will be 
glad to know about it.

i'd like to be able to sync settings between Hotot on each computer (i could 
probably do this manually with Dropbox if i knew where Hotot keeps its settings)

hotot is great piece of software. The only feature i would like to see

When implementing lists, please include the recently added API feature to show 
retweets on lists as well: https://dev.twitter.com/docs/api/1/get/lists/statuses
