GP award steals focus during master looting #297

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

When I'm master looter and I award loot, about a second afterwards, EPGP
pops up a box to award GP for the loot.

This is cool.

The problem is that the GP award box steals keyboard focus. This has
several problems:

* if I'm in the middle of chatting and I press enter before I notice the
GP box, the default GP is assigned and the box goes away... but our guild
uses custom GP values

* this is also a problem if the loot is off-spec, BoE, or DE, where the GP
needs to be changed too

* if I press my vent push-to-talk key, it overwrites the GP value in the
GP box

Obviously there are work arounds for this: one of which is get in the
habbit of pausing after awarding loot, another is to undo GP mistakes
manually using negative GP.

But I suggest changing the GP box so that it does not steal focus. This
would make it much safer to use.

Thanks for EPGP, it's settling in fairly well for our guild over the past
2 weeks. It seems prettyw ell designed. And thanks for listening to my
suggestion above.

Stop chatting while looting might be a good solution to this. There is an UNDO
button
which will also undo the last EP or GP action, so no need to enter negative GP.
Once
you get used to using it, these will not be a problem for you.

Thanks for your reply.

I appreciate your suggestion, but looting time is when the amount of chatting I
need
to do is highest during a raid. I'm uisng vent, whispers and raid chat all
heavily
when master looting.

The other problem is I am often master looting in normal raids but we only use
EPGP
for heroic raids.

However, of course I can try and get into the habbit of pausing after awarding
loot.

I didn't notice the Undo button, thanks for that tip. I will keep an eye out
for it.

Anyway, I only made this suggestion in case other people might also find it
useful.

Thanks again for EPGP.

Yes sorry, I should have put in a :) at the end of the bit about chatting, was
meant
as a joke.

It helps a bit if you bind vent to a 4th or 5th mouse button or something that
doesn't produce output to the
screen.

I will look into not changing focus when the chat is open. If I make it to
never get focus automatically this will
break functionality people expect to be there: that is "enter" and default GP
is credited or "esc" and GP is
canceled.

I found another work around. I installed EPGP LootMaster. It totally changes
the way
master looting works, and in my opinion, for the better. Even if none of the
raid
members use the LootMaster greed/need/pass system, it's still an improvement.

It is also reliable at intercepting loot and looks like it would award GP
reliably
too. I haven't yet tried it in a raid where GP was awarded.

It works perfectly with EPGP, best to get the whole raid using it.

Our guild is now using EPGP LootMaster for all our raids. Looting is now much
simpler
and faster. It's a fantastic addon for many reasons, and one fo them
improvements is
that the GP awarding is easier to control, and this bug is no longer an isue
for us.
Thanks for listening anyway.

Our guild is also using EPGP LootMaster and it has helped with time SO much. We
now
make it a required mod to have.

We just recently cleared all content in one night, 4 hours. I don't think we
would
have been able to do this unless we had EPGP LootMaster in use, it saves that
much
time. And when I say all content, i mean maly sarth and nax.

Closing since EPGPLootMaster fills this gap.
