I've created a basic django server for the Piconga last night. This server provides:

the basic django admin UI to all DB objects (which we get for free)
staff login/logout pages
user registration/deregstration via JSON RESTful API
a simple live status of the server - count of users/congas/messages in the system

Instructions for how to install and run it are already on your wiki.
