Notications window has confusing name #44

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

It seems confusing to refer to the main specto window as the "notification
window". There is a "notification area" where the specto icon resides and
which the alert balloon (sometimes also called a notification popup) also
points to. I propose renaming the main window the "Watch Window" and
identify the alert balloon as it is missing from
http://specto.ecchi.ca/Manual/Terminology

Additionally, the alert balloon seems to be referred to as "toast" in the
preferences dialog for some reason. This is also confusing and should be
reworded.

I'm not sure renaming the notification window to something else can be possible
(something that would be easier to understand, I mean). "Watch Window" seems
wrong to
me, because we know that it's a "window" and watches is pretty abstract. Seeing
"notifications" in the window list applet seems like the best I could think of
so far
:| thoughts, anyone?

Indeed, the libnotify stuff has an unstandardized naming convention. I
previously
heard they were called "toasts", but when we implemented them we named the
module
"balloons" (because I was told it was easier to guess), but they could also be
referred to as "bubbles" (though they are sometimes not round). I'm not sure
what
name would be best here...

Wouldn't the 'main' window be better named "configure watches" or perhaps
"configure
notifications" ?

Not sure, that's more of a name that I think suits the Edit Watch window :P the
main
window is... well... yeah you can add/delete watches, but that is part of other
windows, and... the main window is pretty much for "interactions with the
watches" I
think. Anyhow I use it whenever I have multiple watches that are updated and I
click
their icon to open them...

I won't change this after all, it would not make sense if someone looked at the
window list applet in the panel and saw "main" or "configure watches"...
