invalid specto.desktop file #59

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Run desktop-file-validate specto.desktop

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected: Nothing (success)

Actual: specto.desktop: warning: value "GNOME;Application;Utility;" for key
"Categories" in group "Desktop Entry" contains a deprecated value "Application"
specto.desktop: warning: key "Encoding" in group "Desktop Entry" is deprecated

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
svn rev 112

Sorry, I should have mentioned that the 'desktop-file-update' attachment is a
patch

wow, I did not know that a .desktop file validation tool existed :) thanks for
providing a patch, I will include it when I next commit something to SVN (might
not
be immediately though). If you don't see this fixed in SVN rev 113, poke me
with a stick.

I would like to credit you for your patch in the ChangeLog when I commit
revision
113. If you want, give me your name and I will use that (otherwise I will
mention
"sas.dean")

I committed your patch, but, interestingly enough, when you run the validation
tool
it complains about the Encoding thing we just removed :) what to do?

desktop-file-validate specto.desktop
specto.desktop: error: required key "Encoding" not found

Sorry, could I be referenced as "Dean Sas" in future? email: dean at deansas
dot org

desktop-file-validate doesn't complain here (version 0.13-0ubuntu2). Could it
be that
I'm running a newer version?

Apparently encoding should be able to be detected automatically, see
http://standards.freedesktop.org/desktop-entry-spec/latest/apc.html.

tested in ubuntu 7.10 tribe 2, and it doesn't give any errors/warning, so I
consider
this fixed.
