well the thing is, it was just there to fill the empty space that was taken
*anyway*
by the watch information pane when you did not have a watch selected. And
having the
pane "jump open" would seem very anti-HIG to me, so I'm not sure what the
solution
could be (and, when possible, I don't want to add a preference item for just
everything that comes up)

ah, you have a point, i had forgotten that pane becomes something useful once a
watch
is selected. well then, my vote is add a few more 'tips of the day' into the
next
release. also i studied computer science at university, give me a little while
to
figure out this whole cvs thing and all that jazz and i'd love to start helping
develop specto. i'd suggest removing this issue and marking it as resolvedb
thanks,
chris

hi Chris, marking as resolved (until we have a better idea anyway :)
if you would like to contribute in any way (be it tips of the day,
translations, or
code), you are very welcome to do so!
Currently, the "official trunk" of specto uses Subversion (SVN, which is
somewhat the
successor to CVS). If that can be of help, there is a small section about SVN in
there: http://code.google.com/p/specto/wiki/Installing (though the page is a
bit old).
If you want to see experimental development however, there exist some "bazaar"
(bzr,
yes, another version control system!) branches by Wout [1] and Chris [2].
[1] https://code.launchpad.net/~woutc/specto/specto-woutc
[2] https://code.launchpad.net/~raof/specto/devel-raof
I'll likely get a branch for myself too, once I figure out what I'm doing wrong
(https://answers.launchpad.net/olive/+question/14964 :)

Hi Chris,
Any help will be much appreciated because it seems that currently I am the only
active developer :/
If you have any programming experience you can take a look at my personal
branch...this will probably become the new specto version.
Also a good way to help, is to think about new watches that could be
implemented...with my new plugin system adding a new watch type should become
very
easy, even if you don't much experience with python.
If you have any questions about the code or in general, feel free to contact us!
