I've been using SketchUp as my primary 3D drawing Application since 2004 when I learned how to use it by watching John Morrison http://johnlmorrison.com whip up a design for a product we pitched on Dragon's Den!¹ 😮 I've had several versions of the App on my Macs since then and done at a few dozen designs. (bare in mind that I'm not a "professional" designer/architect/engineer, just a keen amateur who practices enough to use the tools to communicate my ideas)

Most of the drawings I've done are just to "throw away" sketches to communicate an idea to people, a basic example of a design idea I wanted to share is: https://github.com/nelsonic/roof-garden

Anyway, I recently migrated to a "new" (2014 second-hand off ebay for £450 so I get a "fresh keyboard" faster processor and can use all my existing "setup") MacBook Air Laptop and had a "fresh start" so had to download the App again ... https://www.sketchup.com/download

Sadly they did not give me the <option> of a "Free" version (the way the always have...) So now my "trial" has run out and my only two options are: pay $500 or click the Exit button ... 😞

¹don't bother looking for it online, we didn't get through to the show because they didn't think we had "TV appeal" ... the idea (in the physical world advertising space) was - and still is - a really good one with mega cash potential, but we didn't have the funds to finance the Patent at the time and now there are a couple of companies making the product ... 🙄

But I want to be able to use it offline so it's kinda useless to me.

I ended up downloading the "Old" version ("Sketchup Make") https://www.sketchup.com/download/make which allows me keep working.

Note: you don't need to input a real email address, just a valid one. (there is no confirmation or link to verify your address, the download just starts automatically)

They will insist on forcing me to use the "Pro" (Trial) for 30 days ... (again)

Ok, so my work https://github.com/dwyl/home/issues/20#issuecomment-475563751 is not "lost" because I can see it in the "viewer" ... But I will now have to re-draw it in Sketchup Make 2017 in order to extend it. This is lame, but it's not catastrophic.
