After considerable internet searching, I think I've found a supplier: "July Bambu" http://www.julybambu.com/natural-cross-bamboo-panel/ image image

https://julybambu.en.alibaba.com/product/60526191682-803493636/100_Solid_bamboo_panel_use_for_furniture_for_wall_panel_with_FSC_certification_BAMBOO_PLYWOOD_factory.html image

They have a "full supply chain" for making Bamboo Products! http://www.julybambu.com/our-bamboo-forest/ image

Are FSC Certified and have CE and ISO certification too. 🥇

@iteles I need to consider ordering a few sheets of bamboo quite soon ... do we have an ETA on when the Braga Garage will be "ready"?

nelsonic commented 6 years ago

Each "sheet" of Bamboo Ply is 2440 x 1200 = 2.97m2 (round up to 3 for simplicity) The minimum order is 50 Square Meters. (see screenshot above) 50 / 3 = 16.6 so we need to order 17 sheets (min).

I estimate that each Standing Desk will need One Sheet (inc legs, shelves etc.) and a Bunk Bed https://github.com/nelsonic/bunk-bed will require Two Sheets.

Furthermore I will need 5 sheets for the kitchen, 2 sheets for each storage unit (making 3 of these) and 4 sheets for "MR" bedroom furniture ... I think I can easily use 40 sheets in the next couple of months ... 😮

Consulted with the Maslow CNC Community regarding cutting Bamboo Plywood on Maslow: https://forums.maslowcnc.com/t/can-cut-bamboo-plywood-using-maslow/2807 image

Also reached out to "Kylo" from "july bambu" on Alibaba to see how much it will cost to order 20 Sheets: image image image

Awaiting replies ... ⏳ 😉

Got a reply from Maslow peeps: https://forums.maslowcnc.com/t/can-cut-bamboo-plywood-using-maslow/2807/7 It appears that nobody in the Maslow community has tried to cut Bamboo Plywood ... 🙄 This is not a "deal-breaker" because even if I cannot cut it using Maslow, I can always hand-cut it on a table saw in our "shop" (garage workshop) and hand-route the cut pieces on my table-router ...

And a response from July Bambu: image

Turns out the Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ) is 100 Sheets ... 🙄 This roughly the total amount we will need to make all of the furniture in the house.

This is exactly 100 sheets. 🤔 It's almost like I'm making up the data to fit the hypothesis ... 🤣

I sent the following reply to "Kylo" at July Bambu: image

Relevant Links:

$4k (USD) = €3,245 = £2,828 at the time of writing. (pending estimates of shipping and import taxes ...)

But given that this is the material cost for all the furniture in the house, I don't think it's that much ... 🤔 Buying the material locally in PT will be considerably more expensive as there would be the markup of at least two "middle-men" ...

After much back-and-forth with the Bamboo Plywood Suppliers, they finally sent me a Quote: Bamboo+Plywood---JulyBambu.pdf image

image

$85/board + Shipping + Taxes

This equates to a minimum of $100/board ... i.e. "prohibitively expensive" Especially considering that the Birch Plywood is less than half the cost. #16

Opened this question on "Sustainable Living" StackExchange: https://sustainability.stackexchange.com/questions/6695/is-bamboo-plywood-more-sustainable-than-traditional-birch-plywood Hoping to get some feedback on what the most sustainable sheet material is.
