Update translations #10

Open cooljeanius opened 3 years ago

cooljeanius commented 3 years ago

The copyediting I did as part of the 1.3.0 release changed a lot of strings, which probably broke a lot of translations. I updated the potfile as part of that release, so translators should be able to use msgmerge to update their pofiles and then work from there.

cooljeanius commented 3 years ago

Same thing with the 1.4.0 release

@multiseptim and @celerini do you want to help with the Czech ones after finishing ALA?

cooljeanius commented 2 years ago

@MultiSeptim and @celerini do you want to help with the Czech ones after finishing ALA?

ok so it looks like that's PR #41

cooljeanius commented 2 years ago

@MultiSeptim and @celerini do you want to help with the Czech ones after finishing ALA?

...and was followed up by #48, and next by #54

cooljeanius commented 2 years ago

A question from #54 that I never got answered: now that I can actually see all of the pofile headers for all the translations, including the email addresses, I'm wondering if it would make sense to send out a mass email to all of the addresses listed to let them know that there's new translation to be done? And/or the translators listed in the credits?

celerini commented 2 years ago

It may be worth trying along with official i18n mailing list and Translations & Internationalization forum.

It may be worth trying along with official i18n mailing list and Translations & Internationalization forum.

I made a thread in the forum, but barely anyone has bothered replying there yet: https://forums.wesnoth.org/viewtopic.php?t=54568 I guess I'll try the mailing list next...

cooljeanius commented 2 years ago

It may be worth trying,

OK I emailed all the addresses from the pofiles and a number of them bounced; the following addresses should be removed:

@antonino-arcudi might be able to help

Hi, It was problem to generate .pot file, so i left the project. But if you send me a .pot file, i can update hungarian translation

Hi, It was problem to generate .pot file, so i left the project. But if you send me a .pot file, i can update hungarian translation

The .pot file is here: https://github.com/nemaara/A_New_Order/blob/master/translations/wesnoth-A_New_Order.pot Click the "raw" button to get the raw .pot file to be able to download it: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/nemaara/A_New_Order/master/translations/wesnoth-A_New_Order.pot

cooljeanius commented 2 years ago

...although, we've already run msgmerge to update all the language-specific .po files, so you can just start directly with the Hungarian one: https://github.com/nemaara/A_New_Order/blob/master/translations/wesnoth-A_New_Order/hu.po ...or, to skip straight to the "raw" version: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/nemaara/A_New_Order/master/translations/wesnoth-A_New_Order/hu.po

kele17 commented 2 years ago

OK, i got it. Need some time to revise. Where can i send the revised .po file to?

cooljeanius commented 2 years ago

You can either submit it as a pull request on GitHub, or email it to me, or send it as an attachment to me in a Discord DM, or... well, there are a lot of ways. What would work best for you?

kele17 commented 2 years ago

I think an e-mail to you is the best way at this moment.

cooljeanius commented 2 years ago

OK you can just use the address from which I sent out the call for translators, then

cooljeanius commented 1 year ago

OK, i got it. Need some time to revise. Where can i send the revised .po file to?

Please check PR #91 when you get a chance

...make that PR #93 now.

cooljeanius commented 1 year ago

so yeah if any translators have a moment, I'd like your feedback on (and/or help with) putting translation marks on message captions, as I just realized in issue #7

cooljeanius commented 1 year ago

@Toranks might be helping update the Spanish translation

I wonder...

(apologies to the tagged if I already asked this via email, but I forgot the answers, and plus it would be better to have people's involvement status written down here publicly anyways) (I did remove some email addresses from some of the pofiles in 3b78bce, which was merged in PR #94, but I forgot to distinguish between the ones that bounced, and the ones where people said they no longer wished to be involved...)

alxrem commented 10 months ago

What surprise. I thought, the project was abandoned. :) I'll try to review and update russian translation.

Cool, thanks! By the way, do you know where the other Russian translator (listed as "nikita") went? Or any of the other translators, for that matter...

alxrem commented 10 months ago

By the way, do you know where the other Russian translator

No, I never contacted him.

cooljeanius commented 8 months ago

@ForestDragon-wesnoth noted a few typos in the Russian translation in his most recent playthrough, but they might already be fixed with #176 being merged now; I'm not sure...

alxrem commented 8 months ago

Old typos are fixed, new typos are added. :) I continue work with translation.

cooljeanius commented 3 months ago

Translators may wish to opine on #206

cooljeanius commented 2 months ago

Just FYI, the "translations" part for the _server.pbl currently looks like this:

[translation]
    language="ca"
    title=
    description=
[/translation]
[translation]
    language="cs"
    title=
    description=
[/translation]
[translation]
    language="da"
    title=
    description=
[/translation]
[translation]
    language="de"
    title=
    description=
[/translation]
[translation]
    language="en_GB"
    title=
    description=
[/translation]
[translation]
    language="es"
    title=
    description=
[/translation]
[translation]
    language="fr"
    title=
    description=
[/translation]
[translation]
    language="hu"
    title=
    description=
[/translation]
[translation]
    language="it"
    title=
    description=
[/translation]
[translation]
    language="pl"
    title=
    description=
[/translation]
[translation]
    language="ru"
    title=
    description=
[/translation]
[translation]
    language="sv"
    title=
    description=
[/translation]
[translation]
    language="tr"
    title=
    description=
[/translation]

...just in case any translators would like to submit custom titles and/or descriptions for any of their translations. (Related: #212)

nilgun commented 2 months ago

An example would be good. Is this OK?

[translation]
    language="tr"
    title="Yeni Bir Düzen"
    description="Vesnot'un eski krallığında dolaşan haydutlar, paralı askerler gibi unsurları Gevin Hagarten ortak bir düşmana karşı birleştiebilir mi?"
[/translation]
cooljeanius commented 2 months ago

I guess the English one would look something like this:

[translation]
    language="en_US"
    title="A New Order"
    description="The old kingdom of Wesnoth has fallen before barbarian hordes. The occupying barbarians are on the brink of civil war, the seeds of Wesnothian rebellion are kept alive by old legends, while bandits and Dunefolk mercenaries roam the land. Can Gawen Hagarthen unite these disparate factions against a common foe?"
[/translation]

(figuring out #212 would probably help here)

nilgun commented 2 months ago

The Turkish translation is suitable for your example.

Perhaps @k-konami will contribute a Japanese translation some day? There are a lot of strings to translate, though, so maybe it'd be better to divide up the work with some of the other Japanese players, such as @oo13...

Indeed, there are quite a lot of items to translate, so I'm working on them little by little, hoping to have them ready at some point, though I can't say exactly when. I finished another task yesterday, so I might get around to this one when I have some more time.

It's ok to do just part of it! In fact, breaking down the translation into a bunch of smaller PRs would probably be easier for me to review than having one big one, and that goes for any other translators thinking of updating theirs, too. Just do what you can when you can; every little bit helps.
