For keeping the master branch clean, I would recommend wiping out its history to the state that it's at after this PR, and then rebasing the paper branch onto the new wiped out version of master.

Following @tbekolay's suggestion, there are now the following three branches of relevance:

• master-clean - base branch with just a single initial commit (this will go away when we update master)
• paper - current master branch rebased onto master-clean with the first initial commit dropped
• lmu-package - the branch from this PR rebased onto master-clean with everything squashed down to a single commit summarizing the three commits that used to be here

GitHub closed this automatically as soon as I tried switching the base branch for this PR from master to master-clean. You can continue from lmu-package and open a new PR from there.
