I think it should just strip the reply tag and treat the rest of the message as another input. Is there anything that might make this behavior undesirable?
Hm but what if someone else replies to comment on what Tootsee said? Like they're not trying to talk to Tootsee, they just wanna chime in.
E.g. this conversation:
angus: @.tootsee corgis r cute tootsee: @.angus some nonsense idk ben: @.tootsee @.angus wow me too <-- we don't want tootsee to reply to my comment here, even though it technically got @mentioned
I think the easiest fix would be to only respond to toots that are the beginning of the conversation or in conversations that did not previously involve Tootsee. In other words, Tootsee will toot at most once per conversation.
That makes sense. Then in that case I think responses should be ignored. Also makes a straightforward MVP
We need to look into this and make sure Tootsee's behavior remains polite.
