Change color scheme #15

It's hard on the eyes. Black is not great for this imo. White or light gray would be much nicer. Also, the highlighted red nodes/rels don't show that well against black.

Got any better suggestion?

My personal preference is for white on black (the current colour scheme) so I don't think we can please everyone. What if colours were able to be passed as extra parameters?

e.g. ...&bg=#FFFFFF&fg=#000000&...

dmontag commented 12 years ago

I prefer a lighter background. Also, imo light on dark is harder to see on a projector in a dark room than dark on light. With the live console being such a fantastic demo tool, I think this should be factored in.

I'll go ahead and suggest dark gray/black on light gray (like Github :). Configurable in URL and/or toggleable in UI is an option too, if supporting both schemes is necessary.

I like the black too.

Does this offend people?

Definitely not offended. I still think dark on light is preferable though. For one, projectors and large displays do much better with dark on light than the opposite. Secondly, I think the dark, contrasty colors might alienate some people, bringing about a feeling of "niche advanced hacker shell" rather than "your friendly neighborhood graph database that even your grandma will like". Make sense?

freeeve commented 12 years ago

I'd rather have a hacker shell than a grandma portal. :(

I guess there could be a way to set up a preference cookie or something.

No love for grandma :(
