Ancillary teams are bodies composed of organization members, who are given responsibility, authority and limited autonomy over a given matter or area, subject to the general supervision of their parent body and/or the Steering Council.
Assigning authority and responsibility over a particular matter or area to a dedicated group of people ensures delineation of proper duties (knowing who does what) and proper scrutiny of that matter or area (if it would otherwise be cumbersome or difficult for another body to undertake those responsibilities).
The ancillary teams concept is meant to provide a uniform skeleton for the establishment of working groups, task forces, subteams, committees, panels, or other bodies, which take responsibility for some matter or area.
While the individual ancillary team may be referred officially by another name (such as those mentioned previously), as long as they are defined as an ancillary team, they are included under that umbrella team.
