Actually, this is not a bug. After you click on a canvas, a table is created
(named
"new table") and a dialog is opened, allowing you to change its (two)
properties:
name and comment. Clicking "Cancel" in this dialog does not express the desire
to
remove newly added table, but rather the desire to cancel any changes made in
this
dialog.
In this sense, the "Edit table" dialog behaves identically as it does in normal
scenarios, when table's label is doubleclicked.
To cancel a pending "table add", just re-click the relevant sidebar button.
I might remove the "edit after creation" functionality which automatically
opens the
"Edit table" dialog once a table has been created, should people find this
confusing.

Yes I see now,
I was creating the table under the dialog window, so i didn't notice the
sequence of
events.
