2 weeks ago The reason NetBox does not permit cables to be created without any terminations is that there is no mandatory mechanism by which each cable can be uniquely identified. This quickly leads to confusion as it's unclear to the user, absent a label or other identifier, which cable is which.
The second thing would be to add an existing cable to a Device interface/port.
This is already possible by editing the cable.

It would be great, if we could just create cables without device terminations. The second thing would be to add an existing cable to a Device interface/port.
Use case
For easier Documentation, we want to add a unique Number to each cable. Doing this once after getting the cables is much easier than doing it once you need the cable.
If we can already create the cables without attaching it to a device, we have a place, where we know, which cablenumber is the latest.
For sure we could also just create a dummy device but then it would kind of kill the option of maybe being able to connect an already existing cable to a interface/port from the Device view.
I hope you understand what i mean with this request.
