[x] Write a TRANSITIONING.md guide that details what a project needs to do to switch to skele
[x] To make the upgrade seamless, the framework should also support:
- reading @@girders-elements/xxx properties from the state (with a deprecation warning)
- possibly also writing e.g. the metadata under the old and new keys.
