I'm sorry I cannot test this ATM, but in 2.3 a bug was present that caused node servers using syncer to start consuming CPU in an extreme, stupid level. It forced me to stop using maxbans in that moment, around 2 months ago, and I'm not sure if it had been reported, so I'm doing it just in case :)
