Found what @aquette mentioned on another occasion - the diacritics in König directory and file names seem to break git in OpenIndiana if I do any operation after initial cloning (git fsck and git push fail claiming an inconsistency they can not pinpoint).
Git tools work with the same directory (over NFS) from Linux - unless I manipulate the repo from OI first. Can not bash-tab into the directory though nor even git-rename the files by name (only usable as K*nig).
Is there any objection to renaming these dir/file to un-diacriticized "Konig" and stay within ASCII?
