Hi NetworkX team,

With support from the CZI Scientific Python Community and Communications Infrastructure grant, Quansight Labs is able to offer assistance with developing and publishing translations of the brochure websites for the Scientific Python Core Project. You may have seen that translations into some languages are already available for https://numpy.org/, with a version switcher in the top right corner; we're offering to help core projects integrate something similar into their websites. Our aim is to accomplish this in a way that requires minimal effort from the core project maintainers.

I've been tasked with setting up the software infrastructure for translations, and am posting issues today to ask core project teams if they would like to participate. I've published an FAQ here: https://scientific-python-translations.github.io/faq/, with more information. Please take a look and let me know if you have any questions. If you decide to participate, I can begin setting up the translation infrastructure, which will require no work or input from maintainer teams (See here in the FAQ for more details on the process).

It seems that https://networkx.org/ is only a single page, so there would be very little work involved, but I suppose it also means that translations would be less valuable than those for projects with more fleshed out brochure websites. The Install and Tutorial sections of the documentation seem like they could also be good candidates for translation, but I'm not sure how frequently these change, but if not too often, we may be able to help with publishing translations of these two pages as well.

Hello @steppi !

Thank you for this invitation. We are interested in participating. We discussed it at this week's NX community meeting. The landing page would be easy to maintain. We are a little concerned that the install and tutorial pages might change more often than the translation crowdin system could keep up with. But if it would help build the translator community to have more than just one page to work on for NetworkX, we would be willing to try it. Historically those pages haven't changed often, but when they do there are often many changes (e.g. the format was recently changed from rst to myst -- the text content didn't change but just about every line showed up in the diff for that PR.) If you have a sense of whether Crowdin could handle that it could be helpful. And we're certainly fine with starting small and growing as the supply of translators grows.

Thanks!

Hello, folks!

We are happy to announce that we are setting up infrastructure for multiple project’s websites to be translated, including NetworkX.

You can read more in this blog post: Blog - Translations for Scientific Python projects 1

We also have some documentation at https://scientific-python-translations.github.io/

If you are interested in joining this effort, feel free to engage in the #translation channel of the Scientific Python Discord server where we can give you more info.

See you there! :rocket:
