There are several issues with API-based models right now

The method for setting keys is not consistent, sometimes through environment variables and sometimes passed in, this should be fixed.
There are many places where the OpenAI API is implied, but since #324 we are not tied to the OpenAI API

I will send a fix to remedy this issue.
