i like the idea of connecting to things the world understands. so in particular: we have a service (ndstore). We also have a bunch of apps, which are accessible from our FREE APACHE 2.0 app stores, some are built for hpc (cluster computing), some run in a browser (like a plugin), some run locally (app store), or mobile (app store). All communicate back to our service/datastore via web calls.
Maybe not using those words, but I think it's a nice framing.
i like @gkiar version more than mine. but, one thing i learned recently about making figures: reduce cognitive load as much as possible.
currently, we require people to remember color/icon to understand which hardware different things run on. maybe we should put the hardware name inside the corresponding box, to eliminate that load?
That's an interesting idea. I'll play with it when I've got a moment and send an update then.
