Add broad and narrow datatypes first draft. #60

Further to the discussion in #57, this PR extends the available datatype names to 'Broad' and 'Narrow'. The broad datatypes are what we have now, the narrow datatypes are optional extensions in the case that the broad are not specific enough. @niksirbi whenever you have a minute would you mind having a very quick look and giving your thoughts. I basically threw a lot up to see what sticks, will revisit it with fresh eyes later.
