Unity Desktop does not load when using Active Directory Authentication in conjunction with xrdp #1175

First of all let me apologize if this is the wrong place to be asking this.

I am running Ubuntu Server 16.04.3 with ubuntu-desktop and xRDP 0.97

for SSH We are using AD Authentication via SSSD, SSHD, REALMD and it works fine.

xRDP works fine for RDP to Ubuntu Server with local account. Loads full unity desktop.

xRDP only loads wallpaper and right click to open terminal when logging in with domain account. No Launcher or dash button. A partial unity desktop can be launched by using the command "setsid unity" from the terminal but this does not load access to all settings, clock, and tray icons.

Furthermore, if i login locally with the domain account via VMWare i get the full unity desktop. this leads me to believe that it has nothing to do with our AD Auth and something to do with xrdp.

Is this something you can help me iron out or can you direct me where else to look?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I can provide the steps we use to join Ubuntu Linux Systems to our ActiveDirectory Domain if needed.
